Tony winner Gabriel Ebert, Becky Ann Baker and her husband Dylan Baker are among the performers tapped for Peer Gynt off-Broadway. The previously reported Classic Stage Company production, helmed by incoming artistic director John Doyle, will run from May 11 through June 19. Opening night is set for May 25.
In addition to Ebert and the Bakers, the ensemble cast will feature George Abud, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Adam Heller and Jane Pfitsch.
Ebert won a Tony for his performance as Mr. Wormwood in Matilda; he appeared on Broadway earlier this season in Therese Raquin. Becky Ann Baker can currently be seen on the HBO series Girls; her Great White Way credits include Good People, All My Sons, Assassins and Titanic. Dylan Baker returns to the New York stage after appearing in The Audience, God of Carnage and November; he also received a Tony nomination for La Bete. Abud can be seen in CSC’s current production of Nathan the Wise; he was on Broadway last year in The Visit. Bernstine’s New York credits include Grand Concourse, Neva and Ruined. Heller last appeared on the Main Stem in It Shoulda Been You. Pfitsch’s credits include Cabaret, Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Company.
The show presents Ibsen’s tale, adapted by Doyle, of a young Norwegian outcast searching for a life that lives up to his impossible expectations. The production will feature set design by David L. Arsenault, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Jane Cox and original music and sound design by Dan Moses Schreier.
